Is it illegal to make your own Audio books?

i made an audio book for her b-day a while back , she really liked it and i enjoyed reading it, it was kind of fun acting out things, and getting into character. I was wondering if i would get in trouble if i try to sell some audio cds on e-bay or something? Is it illegal to make your own Audio books?
If the book is out of copyright (author has been dead more than about 70 years - I say "about" because it varies from country to country), then you can do whatever you want with it, including making your own audiobook version of it.

Otherwise, you need permission from the copyright owner (probably the author or the publisher). If you don't have that permission and do it anyway, they can sue you if they find out.
while makeing a audio book in itself is not illegal, there are copyrights on books that would require you to get permission from the publisher and author and then get hierd. so yes, selling them on ebay would get you in legal trouble. i would suggest you just look into community theater. Is it illegal to make your own Audio books?
Yes, it's illegal. You can't make money using someone else's material. Unless it's a book that's out of copyright, you can't do it.

Yes, you would get in trouble. No one really cares if you make a recording for private use, but the minute you try to distribute it or play it publicly, you're in trouble. It violates copyright. Books have audio rights, which are generally handled by the author's publisher. They have the exclusive rights to create and distribute audiobooks of the author's work, and the author is paid for it.

If recording audiobooks is something you find fun, you CAN record yourself reading books that are in the public domain, though, and sell those if you choose. For example, if you were to record yourself reading The Secret Garden, which passed into the public domain in 1987, you could then distribute and even sell the recording. Just don't mess with anything that's still under copyright. :)
