Are audio books a substitute for reading an actual book?

In your opinion, do you gain the same thing from an audio book, or does reading the actual book offer something more? Explain.

Thank youAre audio books a substitute for reading an actual book?
I personally get more out of reading the book myself. However, you have to remember that some people are blind, then there are people who just don't have time to read (too busy) so they listen while they drive, and then you have podiobooks...some of them you can't find in print. Then again, audiobooks are good because the author can make sure that everything comes across just how he/she wants it too. But I like reading better. I can take my time, go back and look things up, and go at my own pace.
I think it depends on the person. Some people are able to absorb stories told through audio books better than other people. Personally, I find it hard to concentrate. Other people I know love audio books.

Most people listen to audio books when they can't read, not instead of reading. For example, people commonly listen to audio books while driving. Are audio books a substitute for reading an actual book?
i've asked myself this question on several occasions. if i can truly say i've read a book bc i listened to it.i have very bad eyesight, so it's hard for me to find books in large print. this makes listening to audio books a 'neccessary evil' for me. i'd say as long as you have the unabridged version, u can say you've read it even if u just listened to it.Are audio books a substitute for reading an actual book?
I think that audio books that are not abridged are a perfect substitute for the book.

I generally prefer reading because I can read faster than average. The average person speaks 110 words a minute. I have been timed at reading 2000 words a minute.
I think sometimes an audio book helps you visualize a little bit more.
reading an actual book is better for me. i like being able to feel the book in my hands. i like being able to pronounce things the way i want
I think in someways you gain more from a really good audio book. It is able to surround you more, and pull you in. Especially books where you are hearing/reading someone's story.
I think it really depends on your learning style. Me, I'm a visual learner. I need to read the words across the page in order to remember them. Some people are able to just listen and get the same amount of information out of the book.
I think it is actually possible to get more from an Audio Book than reading a book. I would argue that we have an oral tradition that is tens of thousands of years old. Think of the stories that were passed on generation to generation before writing was even invented. I think an audiobook fits into that oral tradition, and that you may well gain more information listening to an AudioBook that reading a book.
it depends on the book for me.
i think sometimes you can get more out of a book by listening because it goes a little slower and you don't miss anything. i read more just because i read like 2 or 3 times faster than audiobooks read and so unless i need to be multitasking i just read the hard copy
