Are audio books still popular and are they still sold in bookstores like Borders and Barnes and Noble?

The reason I ask is I heard on the news this morning that Americans are changing their spending habits and saving due to the recession, which I'm afraid might end the sale of audio books in bookstore. What are the chances of libraries replacing bookstores? Will libraries be the only places we can get audio books? Are audio books still popular and are they still sold in bookstores like Borders and Barnes and Noble?
Well, if audio books don't make any money, they simply won't make them anymore. Why pay for actors, producers, audio mixers, studio time and directors when libraries will be giving the final product out for free?

I have a feeling there could be some kind of renting situation, like Netflix, that will come about for audio books. Something that's affordable, but still requires payment.

But that's just my opinion! :) Only time will tell
